My Jesus

Today is a wonderful day. It is a day of opportunity. It is an opportunity to use a gift that many people forget they even have. A gift that we can share with the world around us.

When we talk about God, sometimes we feel like we don’t know enough. We feel inadequate when it comes to sharing about Him.

We don’t always have the answers to people’s questions. And we won’t be able to explain everything about Him because scripture tells us He is bigger and higher than our thoughts and understandings.

But He gives us this incredible gift that enables us to tell people about Him in a very unique way…our stories.

Revelation 12:11 tells us…” And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.”

The word testimony means a first hand authentication of a fact. People can’t argue with your testimony because it is your story.

Thirty-ish years ago I married and divorced a man that was physically abusive before I met my husband, William. I struggle with overeating. I am selfish, head strong, judgmental, and prideful.

I snap at my husband too often. I have struggled with resisting the urge to find comfort in alcohol when I am stressed. Sometimes the words that come out of my mouth would get me ban from Facebook if they were in print.

I am impatient with my children. I mix up my priorities. I am lazy.

I overthink things. I like to receive Amazon packages too frequently…much to my husband’s dismay.

I frequently bear in my life the fruit of worshiping things other than Christ.

But…let me tell you about my Jesus.

He is kind to me. He encourages me. He offers me not only a way out when I am tempted, but the strength to say no.

And when I screw up and give in to the temptation, he offers me forgiveness. He loves me even when I act unlovable. He is patient with me.

He is steadfast. And he…the God over all creation…the all powerful and all mighty creator of everything I see and know wants to have a relationship with me.

While I was still his enemy, when I didn’t know Him and hated Him, he died for me.

He is worthy of all of my affections. He is worthy of all of my praise. He is worthy of all my attention and all my energy.

We might have times that we feel inadequate, or that the job set before us is too much. We can experience despair or discouragement.

But my Jesus…he is more than adequate, and the job is absolutely too much for us to do alone, but let me tell you bout my Jesus!!

But there are times that it is hard to feel all of that. There are times that we are in a season that makes it difficult to remember who He is . And that time might be now.

You might be struggling with anger, sadness, loneliness, disappointment with God.

For you, I encourage you to stand tight.

I fell down a river a couple of weeks ago. When I say I fell, I literally mean I fell head over heels over rocks and under white waters…no control at all. Until I hit a rock.

I got stuck on the rock and it stopped what felt like an unending and overwhelming pull of the river. The rock hurt, but it stopped my freefall.

So to you, my friend that is struggling, find a rock. It might be a rock in the path or it might be rock bottom, but wherever you are right now recognize your rock and get stuck…stay steadfast where you are, at this moment…and let us, your brothers and sisters stand in the gap and praise him for you until you are able once again to bring your praise before Him.

And hear our stories.

Be encouraged by the stories of those around you and how God has displayed His greatness.

And if you are not in a season of freefall, it’s time to be real with your people, your family in Christ, your church. Be honest about your struggles because here is what happens when you display your weaknesses…He displays His glory.

All of the yuck that I have done in my life… when displayed with all of the magnificent things that He has done in my life, creates a beautiful song of praise that only I can offer Him. And it creates a story that I can offer others to show them who He is!!

And it isn’t just our personal stories that lead us to praise him, It is the story of creation all around us. Go read Psalm 96!! Seriously….go read it!!

One of my favorite verses in this chapter is 11 and 12….

Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice;

    let the sea roar, and all that fills it;

let the field exult, and everything in it!

Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy

So as you go today and live out your day, if you have the opportunity, share your story. Share your gifts and strengths…but don’t be afraid to share your weaknesses as well.

And join the trees and the stars and the seas and the fields and the forest around you in praising our God for how incredible He is.

How can we truly love the one we do not know?

My prayer mimics that of Paul in Ephesians 1… I pray that through these writings we all might gain spiritual wisdom and insight so that we can know Him more…love Him more…and serve Him more
